# Membership
The membership in Teckids e. V. is possible in different forms. We met in 3. At the 9th General Meeting, the Board of Directors decided to offer alternatives to enable sponsors to provide regular financial support to the association in the form of a sustaining membership.
Membership is regulated under the [statutes of the association.](https://www.teckids.org/media/filer_public/cf/7b/cf7bb17e-78d8-4f91-9692-7554e15ee1cd/satzung.pdf)
## Who should or can become a member?
In principle, every member can join the Teckids e. V. who wants to support our goals and is at least seven years old. There are different types of support:
* Each member supports us financially through the membership fee.
* Every member can actively participate in the projects of the association. We call everyone who regularly comes to our workdays, helps with events or projects or works in a team in some way an active member.
* Even the occasional support helps a lot. Members who support us only ideally through their membership or through irregular cooperation are called inactive members.

# Aims of the association Teckids e. V.
At our workday on 18. March 2017, we held a workshop together to discuss the goals of the association and their priorities. We wanted to find out which common ideas we will use to orientate our association work in the future and in which goals we will invest the most resources. The individual goals of the association and what is meant with it we would like to introduce briefly today.
## 1. Providing educational institutions with free software and free educational material
Our members have agreed that the dissemination of free software to schools and the distribution of free educational material on our workshop topics should be the top priority. For our work, this now means B. that we will also place great emphasis on the reusability of the material, also when preparing workshops for holiday camps and similar activities. In addition, we focus all our free software development on reusability, help projects that develop free software for education, and bring recommendations and experiences to schools and others.
## 2. Offer online platforms for exchange and communication
As a second priority, we want to offer children and young people an online platform for exchanging information about projects and using free software. This includes our e-mail and Jabber service for children and much more, which is now to be planned.
## 3. Recreational activities and afternoon meetings
As usual, we wanted to continue offering holiday and weekend camps and afternoon meetings where children and young people can learn about computer science, natural sciences and free software. In the future, however, we will pay more attention to sustainability in terms of materials and follow-up projects (see above).
## Awareness and presence at events
We want to actively present all the above goals at events such as trade fairs and conferences and ensure the visibility of free software in education.

# Educational Concept
## Introduction
Teckids is an organization that offers projects and other free-time activities to children and young adults. We should not only consider ourselves as a 'provider of knowledge' in the narrow sense of 'education', but rather aim at supporting the development of our participants in an integral way.
Whenever we offer such activities, it is just natural for us to consider children as young people who are living in a community with other children and tutors during the respective project.
We want to briefly introduce the principles constituting our Educational Concept in the following. Some of them may only be relevant for projects lasting several days or being offered repeatedly. Their essential features, however, leave their marks on our pedagogical work in all our activities.
## Principles of our educational work
### Integrality and Life in a Community
Children and young adults are meant to experience life in a community with us. This applies to spending their time with people of the same age and with tutors, especially in the case of projects lasting several days. In principle, our free-time activities are set to be similar to life in a large family, which is based on respect and trust. Our tutors should aim at 'living on one level' with the children while maintaining their status of reliable adressees for any kind of the participants' problems. Anybody is supposed to feel that they are taken seriously on any of these 'levels'and that they get their necessary amount of attention whenever needed.
All items on a project's programme will be carried out by this group in a community. This may not only include workshops or other educational elements, but also the preparation of meals or finding ways of spending an evening together, for example. Appropriate times for rest and sleep and their observation or encouraging our participants to maintain dental or body care are also considered parts of communal life.
### Agreements and mutual trust
Our cooperation with any child or young adult is supposed to be based on mutual trust and agreements. The symbolic 'creation' of such agreements (by means of a handshake, for example) supports the social cohesion of the community and represents a foundation that the community can rely on. Agreements made together with others are much more tangible, especially for children, than a pre-defined, abstract set of regulations. By agreeing on a rule in community, a feeling of an own responsibility for the observation of such rules is created.
### Responsibility and independence
All of our projects aim at motivating our young participants to take responsibilties and to be independent. For children regularly participating in Teckids' projects, this especially applies to independently participating in the organization's affairs and communication. They shall not be excluded from any general aspect of the organization's work. Even those who take part in our projects as guests or irregularly are welcome to make their own decisions after being explained the consequences. Examples for such decisions include signing up for activities, deciding whether or not results or comments can be published and, if agreed to by the parents, deciding on the privacy of participant data.
### Self-reflection
It is a goal of all of our projects that the participants, children and young adults, reflect on their progress, results, capabilities and learning opportunities at all times and that they independently refer to their tutors and mentors with any question or problem.
This also means that we assist the participants with the independent achievement of their goals without severely intruding on their individual work pace. Our projects are result-oriented, which means that we aim at reaching a certain goal, but not at taking a certain approach.
### Feed-back and motivation
Persistent communication of feed-back between tutors and participants, in both directions, represents a core aspect of our learning projects. We especially put a focus on motivation through praise or credit for individual achievements and progress, however, we also promote the ability to take criticism, in both directions.
### All children are welcome
Any child or young adult should be able to take part in our projects. We shall be unsparing in our efforts to remove any hindrance for individuals with special requirements, may they be pedagogical, psychological or medicinal. Both children and parents can trustfully adress us at any time, before or during projects, to talk about circumstances that may be problematic. When we are working together, this will lead to a successful participation in the project.
The organizational principle of our projects is to cater for the requirements of all children and young adults in a way that makes them feel comfortable in the community. This includes break times in which the participants are enabled to take physical exercise, but also individual offers for relaxation (such as the use of exercise equipment by children diagnosed with ADHD outside regular break times) and games promoting trust, confidence and community.
Informing us about special pedagocial or psychological requirements can be helpful or even necessary. It is, however, important to us that we shall not directly adapt the way in which we take care of a participant to our prior knowledge. We rather focus on getting to know all children and young adults equally and thus being able to assess them. This is possible even in short-term projects as the creation of a community quickly leads to a trustful atmosphere.
### Observation and support
Regular participants of our projects often go through a process of continuous development in the fields mentioned above, such as their sense of responsibility, independence and practical knowledge. We aim at keeping an eye on these developments and convert our observations into individual recommendations. These should not only inspire the participants to independently make progress at home, but also motivate them to actively participate in our projects.
### Co-operation with parents
Just as we want to actively communicate feedback in both directions with our young participants, we want to work closely with parents. This does not only apply to targeted and early information about special requirements, but the communication shall also include feed-back from our point of view about the process (and progress) of learning, social competences andobservations from the life in community.
Teaching and learning
### From children to children
Kinder erklären As we want to be on one level with our participants, our workshops are supposed to take place in a strong community. This is based on the tutors being children or young adults themselves, who are experts in a their field but shall aim at working towards a certain result in community with their peers of the same age. While doing this, both tutors and participants will be supported by our adult members.
Tools for individual learning
It is important that we not only occasionally support our participants' learning processy in our projects. This is why we make certain tools accessible to all children and young adults, using which they are able to work at home depending on their interests. For example, this includes the possibility to connect to the system used in our workshop from any home computer so that the participants can access their results and our software at any time.
### Result orientation
In order to reach a certiain goal in a learning process, we agree on a desired result with our tutors and participants, the achievement of which is then approached independently with the necessary instructions and support provided by the tutors.
We put a strong focus on results that can be presented and that are looked back at by the participants with personal pride. This pride and satisfaction are our core criteria of good participants' and tutors' results.
### About the authors
The educational concept presented results from the experience made in many projects and our notions of a good co-operation with children and young adults.
The team in charge of educational questions (Niklas Bildhauer, Dominik George, Jutta Paul-Fey, Klaus Suthe, Johannes Tobisch, Martin Winter) are responsible for making this concept the foundation of the work of all tutors and mentors.

## Edugit
EduGit is a free git hosting service - that is, a website that enables the joint development of software (and other things).
EduGit attaches particular importance to its applicability in cooperation with children and young people, so that if they are interested, they can be introduced to working together on free software at an early age and can make important contributions at any time.
### What is git?
Git is a so-called source code management system (source code management system). When several people work together on the same files, such as a program, they need a way to merge their work, see the history of their changes, choose one of several ways to make changes, and more. One way to do this is Git.
If you want to learn more about it, you will find a lot of information in the Wikipedia article and much more in the book "Pro Git".
### What is EduGit?
EduGit is a website on which you can manage so-called Git repositories and much more about your own or third-party projects. Even if you have no experience with software development or Git, you can already contribute to projects on EduGit - for example you can report problems, bugs or wishes in projects, such as B. in the software of Veripeditus or other projects.
### Git and EduGit in class
Computer science and other teachers can use Git or EduGit in teaching projects, e. g. to work together in groups on computer science projects, teaching materials, etc. to work. In this way, students learn important software development processes as well as basic concepts of digital teamwork, data structures and algorithms.
Free teaching material on the use of Git and EduGit will be available in the foreseeable future - if you are interested, we recommend subscribing to the newsletter for teachers!
### Why EduGit and no other service?
On the Internet there are now a lot of services that can be forfeited, such as B. GitHub or GitLab. com, which is based on the same software as EduGit However, all these services have major restrictions on their use with children and young people, provided that minors can legally use them at all. EduGit is powered by the Teckids e. V. specifically in the area of cooperation with children and young people. Only one Teckids account is required for use; the terms of use and privacy policy are designed so that minors can easily agree to them. This enables real cooperation across age limits!
We recommend that software projects that develop software (among others) for the educational sector or that have underage users and potential contributors host their code on a platform that meets these requirements. Educational projects that use Git for their coordination are also welcome. Who can use EduGit can be found in the terms of use for Teckids services.
### Use EduGit
In order to use EduGit, a Teckids account is required first. Registration is possible via a web form. With the Teckids account it is then possible to log in to the EduGit website.
## Remotedesktop
In our projects all participants use the operating system Debian GNU/Linux on computers and laptops set up by the association. We call this environment "Lunatics".
You can also use this environment from home, simply directly in your web browser. The same settings and files are available. This means that you always find exactly the same environment in the project and at home.
**Warning:** You need a username and password to log in!
As soon as you click on the link below, a small login window will appear in your browser. User name and password of the Teckids systems must be entered here. The topmost selection field must not be changed.

# Software
## AlekSIS
AlekSIS is a web-based school information system (also called SIS) that can be used in educational institutions, such as schools, to manage organisational matters. It is managed by Teckids with the Katharineum zu Lübeck and is constantly being developed and improved.

## Other Software
The Teckids e.V. supports a number of other free software that is educational or can be used for educational purposes. These projects are not co-ordinated or centrally developed by the association, but are used in the association's work, supported for other educational institutions and occasionally co-developed by contributions.
### Movim
Movim is a free social network based entirely on the XMPP standard. It is decentralized and supports single chats, group chats, communities, microblogs and more. The chat platform of Teckids e.V. is based on Movim (and ejabberd).
#### xrdp
xrdp is a remote desktop server for Linux. It is possible to use a remote desktop client on a terminal server using a remote desktop client.Teckids e.V. uses xrdp to provide a freely accessible, free Debian desktop. We also test xrdp as a component of the Skolelinux cloud.

# FrogLabs FrOSCon 2019
From the 8th to the 11th of August this year the FrogLabs took place in Sankt Augustin again. 90 children took part in the workshops: game development, electronics, robotics, plus one creative workshop which resulted in stop-motion videos and audio dramas. In contrast to the previous Froglabs, this year there was one more day planned for leisure activities and getting to know each other. On Friday, the participants could either go to one of the museums available and then go to Bonn's city centre or go geocaching. On Saturday and Sunday the workshops took place as part of the FrOSCcon at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. The parents could marvel at the results of the workshops at the final presentation on Sunday.
# Thursday
Starting at 2.30pm, the first children arrived with their parents. After they had registered, received a name badge and a water bottle, they were assigned a place on the campsite where they pitched their tents. Those who did not have their own tent were accommodated in large group tents. After a quick introduction, the last parents left the campsite. The children got to know each other by playing volleyball together, having dinner or talking at the campfire. In addition, geocaching, a night hike and karaoke were offered.
# Friday
We used the second day either for a larger geocaching tour or for a visit to a museum with a subsequent visit to the city centre. The "Haus der Geschichte", the "Deutsches Museum" and the "Arithmeum" were among the choices. Those who wanted to visit one of the museums walked together from the campsite to Bad Godesberg railway station. After the visit in the museums, those who wanted could visit Bonn city center in groups of 5. Although it rained, some of them played volleyball in their swimsuits in the evening. The night hike was also well attended despite the bad weather.
# Saturday
On Saturday, we went to the FrOSCon with two buses. There, the participants joined their respective workshops: this year, game development offered programming with Python and, as every year, was the most attended. Electronics tinkered with the ESP, robotics built robots and in the creative workshop, you could make your own audio dramas or stop-motion films. During the breaks the participants could go on the bouncy castle and discover the rest of the event. On Saturday evening, there were the same offers as on the previous days.
# Sunday
On Sunday morning, everyone took down their tents and cleaned up the campground. Afterwards, everyone went back to the university and finished their projects in the course of the day. These were presented to all participants and parents in the final presentation.

# Grazer Linuxtage 2019
