# Grazer Linuxtage 2019
In the period from 24. April to 28. April we visited the Linuxtage in Graz. There our association organized the Mini-FrogLabs and also looked after a stand. During this trip, the tutors got to know Graz and were able to visit various workshops of the event. They learned a lot about the different topics of Linuxtage. The stand and the two workshops on the topics of game programming and electronics were successful. We were able to inspire our participants for these two topics.
Wednesday morning we left early by train from Cologne central station. We spent the time on the train playing cards, talking and laughing. Due to a delay we drove a little longer than planned. After we got an impression of the apartment and settled in, we ordered something to eat. Afterwards we went to sleep as it was already very late.
On the second day we could sleep a little longer and looked for a small snack in Graz for lunch. Finally we explored Graz, whereby the geocaching of course was not neglected. After a hike up the beautiful Schlossberg, with a fantastic view of Graz from above and the traditional visit to the Graz clock tower, some of us took the lift and the others took the 170 meter long slide through the mountain to the foot of the hill. Afterwards we continued our geocaching, among others on the Murinsel, a glassy building on the water, and in the old town of Graz.
Everyone was looking forward to the Linuxtage and the various workshops on Friday. Besides participating in different workshops like soldering or lockpicking, we also made final preparations for the workshops and set up our booth.
On Saturday was the official start of the congress. Our workshop participants also arrived. They were very enthusiastic about programming with Python, PyGame and the ESP8266 microcontroller. We received a lot of positive feedback for our projects and our commitment to the use of free software in education. After we dismantled our stand and cleaned up our rooms at the end of the day, we were invited to the social event. We also received an invitation to participate in the congress again next year. On the last day we said goodbye to Graz and were looking forward to visit the city and the event again next year.
All in all this trip was very successful for our club. So we were able to show the people at our booth that the Skolelinux/Debian Edu project has been brought back to life or still exists, as well as we could inspire the children in our workshops for programming and electronics.
We would like to thank the organizers of Linuxtage and are looking forward to offer our Mini-Froglabs and a booth there again next year!

## Hack'n'Fun 2019 X-Mas-Edition (36c3)
As the last years we went to Leipzig between the 27. and 30. December with a youth group, consisting of 16 participants, in order to visit the 36. Chaos Communication Congress (36c3). This year's congress was held under the motto 'Resource Exhaustion'.
On Friday morning, the first ones met in Bonn to meet a large part of the other participants in Cologne. The remaining participants joined us in Dortmund and Wuppertal. The journey went by quickly and each one got to know the other a little better. After the ride we walked to the hostel, which, fortunately, is not too far away from the main station. When all suitcases were brought in the rooms, we gathered to discuss the further procedures.
Afterwards we went to the congress. Once there, the participants split up into groups and were able to explore the assemblies (exhibitions of projects) and lectures on their own. The congress was also about 'hacking', i. e. modifying and using things in other ways in order to create new things. For example, a music machine was created from various objects from everyday life, combined with mechanical and electronic components. A light wall was created from jam jars containing LEDs. With this one you could play Hexatris (Tetris with hexagons) and run some light animations. All in all there were many technical and creative things to see, as well as hacks. As last year the people from the assemblies were very friendly and patient to us. A highlight was also the tube mail, which covered the entire Hall 3 and provided a contrast to the digital transmission of news and messages.
In the evening we had dinner together in the hostel. Afterwards there was freetime, which was very much welcomed by all participants. There was the possibility to play billiards, but you could as well play games with the others in the lounge.
Saturday morning we went to the congress again, but we did not stay there until late in the evening, because all the children who had not been with us last year went to the museum in the 'Runde Ecke', where everything is about practices of the Ministry of State Security (Stasi/MfS), including the surveillance of citizens. Afterwards you had the choice to explore the city of Leipzig or to return to the hostel. Also the people who were still at the congress went to the city. After a common dinner there was freetime again.
On Sunday, interested children went to the Egyptian Museum and the Museum of Printing Arts or to the congress. In the Museum of Printing Art we were able to have a look at the history of the art of printing and which printing machines work how. We were also able to marvel at how the machines work and were actually able to print once ourselves. Afterwards we drove back to the congress. After dinner we could watch a film that was thematically related to our visit to the museum in the 'Runde Ecke'.
Monday morning we went to the congress again. Here you could have a final look around the congress, before we went back to the main station in the early afternoon to take the train home. In the evening we arrived exhausted, but with new impressions, which our participants describe like this:
*"The 36th. Chaos Communication Congress in Leipzig gave me many new insights and experiences that I would like to repeat. Besides the assemblies, where different groups presented their projects on topics like data protection, computer hard- and software, I liked many of the presentations very much. In the subjects deeplearning and data retention I was able to gather a lot of knowledge. In general I found the atmosphere in the congress really great, because besides funny self-built vehicles and a sticker exchange, there was also the possibility to tinker with things in workshops, which is a difference to other fairs."*
*- Benedict, a participant*
*"The Congress was my highlight of the year. I felt like a little child in an amusement park the whole time. After all, the CCC is about hacking in the broadest sense, which is why topics auch as data retention, data protection or mobility, which concerns everyone after all, were adressed on the one hand, but also very specific topics were raised. Because of this diversity there is something for everyone and I am already looking forward to next year."*

# Mini-FrogLabs at TÜBIX 2019
**The 6th. July 2019 a small edition of FrogLabs took place at the Linuxtag (TÜBIX) in Tübingen, Germany. This gave 27 children and young people the opportunity to take part in three workshops and attend Linuxtag.**
From 5. 7. 2019 to 7. 7. 2019 we were in Tübingen and held workshops on programming games, electronics and creative. So on Friday we all met in Bonn-Beuel and landed, with Niklas as a brilliant driver, in the evening in Böblingen, in a brewery where we had dinner. Afterwards we drove to our holiday apartment. Comfortably in a small but fine village, lay our three-storey accommodation in which we first settled in. Now equipped with slippers, we discussed important details for the next day and went to sleep afterwards.
The next morning we had to get up early because when we arrived at 9am at the University of Tübingen, where the TÜBIX takes place every year, we had to move our material into two rooms, prepare ourselves and fix a pretty big problem: Our server went crazy. So the participants, who had arrived in the meantime, could not log in, which is why the workshops Programming Games and Electronics did not really work well at first. The creative workshop, in which own radio plays were produced, was able to bridge the first part quite well with writing the scripts and refining them, but the server problem still had to be solved.
At 13:30 we all had earned a lunch break and the food truck provided us with food. As every year, there were guided tours of the telescope, where the participants had the opportunity to have a close look at the telescope of the University of Tübingen and to learn more about it. In the meantime everybody could log in again and the workshops could be continued. The workshop Creative, with Hannah and Niels, added effects to the audio books for the first time and motivated the young producers to make sure that hearing people can immerse themselves in the world. This is how audio books became extraordinarily good radio plays.
At 17:30 the final presentation followed and everybody was impressed by the results of the three workshops and at about 20:00, after a well-deserved dinner, we returned to the holiday flat.
The next day we left. But first we all slept until about 9 am and enjoyed a sumptuous homemade breakfast with fresh scrambled eggs. After we packed our rental car afterwards, we drove out of the small village and onto the highway to the small town of Deidesheim. Our quite spontaneous leisure planning the evening before led us here halfway to the German Museum for Photo, Film and Television Technology. A small, very interesting museum, which led once across the German photo, film and television technology.
All in all, the Mini-FrogLabs at the TÜBIX were a great success this year again, also due to the pleasant cooperation with the TÜBIX-Orga, and we will certainly be present at this event again next year.

{% end %}
{% photo_section(title="Lernen und Technikbasteln", img="workshopraum.jpg", alt="Programmierworkshop in einem Raum", credit="Dominik George, CC-BY-SA", align="right") %}
willkommen!
{% end %}
{% photo_section(title="Essen, Trinken, Schlafen", img="essen.jpg", alt="Niklas mit Kochmütze verteilt Crêpes", credit="Dominik George, CC-BY-NC-ND") %}
* Frühstück ab etwa 9 Uhr, mit Brötchen, Aufschnitt, Rührei, Müsli
* Snacks während des ganzen Tages (Obst, Rohkost, Kekse, Studentenfutter)
* Nachmittagsüberraschung
* Warmes Abendessen (z.B. Nudeln, selbstgemachte Pizza oder Grillen)
